How net metering works
How utility credits may help offset what you use from the grid.
Net metering is a billing arrangement that lets your utility credit you for extra electricity your solar system sends back to the grid.
When you produce more than you use during the day, the extra flows back. At night, or when your usage is high, you pull from the grid — and your credits can help offset that cost.
Net metering rules vary by state and utility. Some areas use full retail credits, others use lower rates, and others use newer tariff structures. We'll explain how it works in your specific area.
